Migrated 8 legacy manuals from Adobe FrameMaker to S1000D-compliant DITA structure in Oxygen XML. Reused 42% of content through DITA conref mechanism, reducing total word count by 28%.
Challenge: FrameMaker documents had inconsistent heading structures and ad-hoc formatting. Normalization before DITA conversion required a manual content audit. Scripted some of the repetitive reformatting with XSLT.
Learned: Structured authoring migration always reveals how unstructured the original content was. Budget 40% of the project time for content normalization before format conversion.

Developed Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) for thruster assembly using exploded views generated from CATIA V5 models. Mapped CATIA EBOM to IPC part numbers and created figure callout system.
Challenge: CATIA EBOM contained multiple instances of the same part with different configurations — IPC requires unique part numbers per configuration. Worked with CAD team to resolve the EBOM before IPC mapping.
Learned: IPC quality depends on EBOM quality. If the EBOM is inconsistent, the IPC will be inconsistent. Establishing a clean EBOM before IPC work starts is not optional.

Authored Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) for satellite attitude control system — 340 pages covering disassembly/reassembly procedures, troubleshooting, calibration, and parts list. Delivered in S1000D format.
Challenge: Engineering team delivered procedure inputs in inconsistent formats — some as Word, some as engineering notes, some as verbal descriptions. Standardized a procedure template that engineers fill in before documentation starts.
Learned: Technical writers cannot produce good documentation from bad inputs. Getting engineers to use a structured procedure template upstream saves 30% of writing time and produces fewer review cycles.
